Meggie Richard named Parti Québécois candidate for Duplessis riding

Meggie Richard, former prefect of the Minganie regional county municipality, has been officially confirmed as the Parti Québécois candidate for the Duplessis riding on Quebec’s Côte‑Nord. The nomination deadline passed on Friday, so no internal contest was held.

Richard, a long‑time sovereignist, said she will use her knowledge of the territory to give the North‑Shore a stronger voice in the National Assembly, fight demographic decline and end what she calls the “centralised” decision‑making of the current government. She also reaffirmed the PQ’s ultimate goal of Quebec independence, arguing that it would allow regions like Duplessis greater autonomy.

Her professional background includes tourism development in Havre‑Saint‑Pierre, coordination of port development, and serving as the president of the Assembly of the Côte‑Nord MRCs. She earned a diploma from Cégep Garneau and a bachelor’s degree in tourism from the Université du Québec à Trois‑Rivières.
