Conrad Sangma addresses NPP setbacks and Meghalaya governance

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma addressed several political and administrative developments on Tuesday. Addressing the National People’s Party (NPP) leadership, Sangma expressed that the party is “very upset” following the loss of its five MLAs in Nagaland, who merged with the ruling Naga People’s Front (NPF). Despite this setback, Sangma stated the party would rebuild its organization in the Northeast and remains a committed member of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

In Meghalaya, Sangma dismissed rumors of internal rifts within the NPP or between the NPP and the BJP. He ruled out any immediate cabinet expansion or reshuffle to accommodate eight former United Democratic Party (UDP) MLAs who recently joined the BJP, asserting that the state government remains stable.

On administrative matters, the Meghalaya government has initiated the process to establish a 6th Pay Commission to review and revise salary structures for state employees. Sangma also noted that the state’s finances remain stable and addressed upcoming consultations regarding border discussions and local water supply issues.
