Meghalaya launches ‘Read & Rise’ programme for reading readiness
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has launched the ‘CM-IMPACT Read & Rise Meghalaya’ programme in Shillong. The initiative is a core component of the Chief Minister’s Initiative for Maximising Pass Achievement and Classroom Triumph (CM-IMPACT), designed to establish universal reading readiness among school children.
The programme aims to ensure grade-appropriate reading skills to serve as a foundation for academic progress, specifically targeting learning gaps caused by previous classroom disruptions. A primary focus of the intervention is to bridge educational divides in rural and remote districts where access to resources has been uneven.
According to Commissioner & Secretary Vijay Kumar Mantri, the immediate objective is to ensure that every child above the age of seven can read within three months. The state also released a Teacher Training Guide for Universal Reading Readiness, sponsored by the Education Department, to support the rollout of these early learning outcomes.
