Meghalaya releases scholarships for over 96,000 students

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has released the first installment of the Umbrella Post-Matric Scholarship for the 2025-26 academic year, benefiting 96,812 Scheduled Tribe (ST) students across the state.

During an event at Shillong College, an initial amount of ₹93.698 crore was released via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The total estimated requirement for verified applications this year is ₹198.42 crore. Funding is provided through a combination of ₹84.55 crore from the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs and a ₹9.40 crore contribution from the Meghalaya government.

The disbursement utilizes the Single Nodal Agency (SNA) system introduced by the Union Ministry of Finance to facilitate real-time transfers. Under this system, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will transfer funds directly to the beneficiaries' accounts, a process expected to be completed within four to five working days.
