Meghalaya to expand health network to 700 Sub Centres by 2027

Meghalaya is expanding its primary healthcare network, with plans to reach a total of 700 Sub Centres by March 2027. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma reported that over 110 Sub Centres have been completed in the last two years, and an additional 200 are scheduled for completion by the 2027 deadline.

The state government has invested approximately Rs 750 crore in health infrastructure over the past five years. Ongoing construction and upgrades at facilities in Bajengdoba, Byrnihat, Mahendraganj, Raksamgre, and Mylliem Umthlong are expected to be functional by January 2027. Additionally, a 100-bed hospital in Resubelpara is slated for activation soon. These projects are intended to add more than 600 beds to the state’s existing capacity of roughly 7,000 beds.

Recent data indicates significant improvements in health outcomes. According to the report ‘Meghalaya’s Health Trends: Progress and Priorities’, infant deaths declined by 40 percent between 2020-21 and 2025-26, while maternal deaths fell by 57 percent. National Family Health Survey data also shows increases in institutional deliveries, reaching 79 percent in 2025-26, and full child immunization rising to 75.3 percent.
