Thomas Markle Sr. under investigation in Philippines for alleged child abuse material

Thomas Markle Sr., the estranged father of Meghan Markle, is under investigation by Philippine authorities following allegations of possessing child sexual abuse material. The investigation was initiated after Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., reported discovering what he described as hundreds or thousands of illegal images and videos among belongings in his father’s former residence in Cebu.

Philippine Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla confirmed that the Philippine National Police inspected the property and seized a laptop and a trove of child pornography materials. Forensic analysis of the digital devices is currently underway, with results expected within approximately one week. The FBI has also reportedly offered assistance in the investigation.

Thomas Markle Sr., 82, has vehemently denied the allegations, calling them ‘sick lies’ and stating he has never had sexual relations with anyone under the age of 18. He noted that the electronic devices in question had not been in his possession for some time.

Meghan Markle released a statement expressing that she is ‘deeply distressed’ by the news. She revealed that she had been aware of troubling allegations against her father since 2018, after receiving a letter via the Metropolitan Police in London. She stated that her decision to sever contact was made to protect her children, Archie and Lilibet.
