Investigation into Thomas Markle Sr. allegations

Overview

Thomas Markle Sr., father of Meghan Markle, remains under investigation following allegations of possessing child sexual abuse material. The claims, initiated by his son, Thomas Markle Jr., involve the alleged discovery of illicit images and videos in boxes and electronic devices at his former residence in Cebu, Philippines.

Philippine authorities, including the Philippine National Police (PNP), have confirmed the discovery of a “significant volume of child pornography material” and a laptop during an inspection of the residence. Philippine Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla stated that a specialized task force has been appointed to handle the case and is examining the device to recover digital evidence, with full results expected within a week. Remulla noted that “all signs point to a possible sex offender of the grossest kind.”

The FBI has confirmed it is aware of the allegations and is providing support to Philippine authorities while investigating potential violations of U.S. federal law.

Thomas Markle Sr., 82, has denied the allegations, calling them “sick lies” and “a lot of lies,” suggesting his computer may have been hacked. While he admitted to traveling to the Philippines and paying for sexual services, he maintained, “I have never had sex with anyone under the age of 18.” He further noted that the electronic devices in question had not been in his possession for some time.

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, stated she has been aware of concerning allegations since 2018. She noted that a letter containing serious accusations was sent to the Metropolitan Police and royal protection officials in 2019, which she claims was not forwarded to other authorities at that time. Expressing that she is “deeply shaken” and “deeply distressed,” she has maintained no contact with her father to protect her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
