Meghna Gulzar and Kareena Kapoor promote crime thriller Daayra

Filmmaker Meghna Gulzar and actress Kareena Kapoor Khan are promoting the upcoming crime thriller ‘Daayra’, scheduled for release on September 18. The film stars Kapoor as a police officer and features Prithviraj Sukumaran. The narrative is described as a socially grounded story exploring justice, power, and systemic grey zones.

Gulzar revealed that the concept for the film originated in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown while she was at her village home. Although the idea was pitched by Junglee Pictures at that time, production was delayed as she focused on the biopic ‘Sam Bahadur’. The filmmakers decided to proceed with ‘Daayra’ four years later, believing the subject matter would remain relevant.

During promotional interviews, Kapoor reflected on her personal history, noting a regret regarding her decision to prioritize acting over completing her education after the 11th grade. She expressed a desire for her children to pursue their dreams while also emphasizing the importance of finishing their schooling.
