Edirne inaugurates new library and restored Mevlevihane
Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy has inaugurated two major cultural landmarks in Edirne: a new Provincial Public Library and the restored Muradiye Mevlevihanesi.
The new five-story library spans 8,812 square meters and features a capacity of 160,000 books. Designed to serve over a thousand people simultaneously, the facility includes dedicated areas for children and babies, research sections for youth, reading rooms for adults, a 24/7 study hall, workshops, a conference hall, and a cinema. Minister Ersoy noted that such institutions serve as vital investments in the future and offer a qualitative alternative to combat screen addiction.
Additionally, the historic Muradiye Mevlevihanesi has reopened following restoration efforts. The site, which holds significant spiritual and musical importance dating back to the era of Sultan Murad II, was previously damaged by fires and earthquakes and was largely demolished in 1935.
During his visit, Ersoy also inspected the Makedonya Tower Museum, which has hosted 18,000 visitors in the four months since its restoration. The museum displays various historical artifacts, including a 2,200-year-old head of Odysseus.
