Restoration of Edirne Mevlevihanesi and cultural facilities
Overview
Following a reconstruction project initiated in 2024, the 500-year-old Edirne Mevlevihanesi is scheduled to reopen to the public on October 23, 2026. The restoration, managed by the Edirne Governor’s Environmental Protection Foundation, utilized historical records and photographs to guide the excavation and landscaping of the site, which was originally part of the 15th-century Muradiye Mosque complex.
Upon its reopening, Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy inaugurated both the restored Mevlevihane and a new five-story Provincial Public Library. The library facility includes research sections, a 24/7 study hall, and a cinema, designed to accommodate over a thousand people. The Mevlevihane site now features library facilities, workshops, and specialized rooms for cultural and spiritual discussions.
