Melaka political coalitions begin seat negotiations for upcoming state elections
Political coalitions are engaging in negotiations ahead of the Melaka state elections, expected by the end of the year. Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that Melaka BN is open to discussions with any coalition and has authorized state chairman Ab Rauf Yusoh to conduct these negotiations. Zahid noted that while seat allocation is a challenging issue, he believes it can be resolved through proper dialogue.
Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan clarified that upcoming talks between PN and BN regarding the Melaka polls will not involve Bersatu. He noted that negotiations will be shaped by specific local factors, such as the distribution of parliamentary and state seats.
Meanwhile, Pakatan Harapan (PH) has reportedly held discussions with BN regarding a potential pact for the state polls. Melaka BN chairman Ab Rauf Yusoh emphasized that political negotiations do not automatically result in a formal partnership, stating that the outcome will depend on various strategic factors and the strengths of each party.
