Melaka political parties negotiate coalitions ahead of state election

Political parties in Melaka are navigating potential coalitions ahead of the upcoming state election. The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Melaka branch has expressed openness to discussing cooperation with parties that share similar views, including the Pakatan Harapan coalition led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. However, Bersatu officials noted that any such agreement remains subject to the decision of the party's central leadership and must exclude parties perceived to have betrayed previous cooperation within Perikatan Nasional.

Simultaneously, Barisan Nasional (BN) is expected to finalize its political direction for the Melaka election. UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Dr. Muhamad Akmal Saleh stated that the UMNO Supreme Council meeting this Friday will determine whether BN will cooperate with Perikatan Nasional or Pakatan Harapan. The decision-making process will also involve UMNO Youth as part of the party's political bureau.
