Melaka state election to test strength of new political parties

The upcoming Melaka state election is expected to serve as a critical test for new political entities attempting to challenge the long-standing dominance of Barisan Nasional (BN). Political analyst Dr. Ahmad Zaharuddin Sani Ahmad Sabri suggests the election will clarify the strength of newer parties, specifically Parti Wawasan Negara (WAWASAN) and Parti Bersama Malaysia (BERSAMA).

WAWASAN holds a comparative advantage due to its previous performance in the Negeri Sembilan state election, where it won three out of four seats within the Perikatan Nasional-BN coalition framework. However, analysts note that these victories do not yet prove the party's ability to win independently outside of a coalition. Meanwhile, BERSAMA faces scrutiny following its loss of 15 seats during the Johor state election, raising questions about its political identity and brand strength in Melaka.
