Melatonin research challenges heart failure risk concerns

Recent scientific research is reshaping the debate regarding the safety of melatonin, a popular sleep aid. In late 2025, a study presented at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions raised concerns that long-term melatonin use might increase the risk of heart failure. That study, led by Dr. Ekenedilichukwu Nnadi, analyzed health data from 130,828 adults with chronic insomnia.

However, newer research provides a different perspective. Randomized controlled studies have not yet confirmed that melatonin causes heart damage. Furthermore, a recent meta-analysis suggests that the supplement may even offer potential positive effects for certain patient groups.
