Stellantis to sell Free2Move car‑sharing business to Mutares

Stellantis announced an agreement to sell its entire stake in the Free2Move car‑sharing operation to private‑equity firm Mutares SE & Co. KGaA. The transaction is slated to close by the end of 2026, pending the usual regulatory and closing conditions.

Free2Move provides free‑floating car‑sharing services in 14 cities across Europe and the United States, serving about 1.2 million users. The divestment follows Stellantis’ FaSTLane 2030 plan, which aims to concentrate capital on core automotive brands, regions and technologies that deliver the highest returns.

Mutares plans to build a new mobility platform, revamp the international fleet, continue the shift to electric vehicles and enhance the customer experience. Virgilio Cerutti, Head of Business Development & Partnerships at Stellantis, said the move “strengthens our ability to achieve long‑term sustainable results.” Mutares CIO Johannes Laumann added that the acquisition will combine a recognised brand with significant operational improvement potential. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
