Memorial plaque reinstalled for abducted journalists Perenić and Slavuj

A memorial plaque dedicated to abducted Radio Priština journalists Ranko Perenić and Đura Slavuj has been reinstalled for the tenth time on the road between Velika Hoča and Zočište. The installation was organized by the Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS) and attended by family members and representatives from the OSCE.

The plaque, which features text in both Serbian and Albanian stating, “Here on August 21, 1998, our colleagues journalists Đuro Slavuj and Ranko Perenić were abducted. We are looking for them,” had been destroyed nine times previously, most recently in late July.

Perenić and Slavuj disappeared on August 21, 1998, while traveling to Zočište to report on the return of abducted monks. Investigations by UNMIK and later EULEX confirmed that the journalists were abducted by members of the KLA (Kosovo Liberation Army) at gunpoint. Their current whereabouts remain unknown, and their families have received no official information regarding their fate.
