Mendoza homicide rate falls 40% in early 2026 as Córdoba violence climbs

Official data for the first half of 2026 show a sharp decline in homicides in Argentina's Mendoza province. The province recorded 21 intentional homicide victims, down from 35 in the same period of 2025, a 40% drop and the lowest semi‑annual total in recent years. The reduction follows a downward trend noted by the National Criminal Information System, which reported 65 homicides in 2025, below the national average.

In contrast, Mexico's Córdoba city reported a surge in violent crime during the same period. Municipal records documented 267 victims of domestic violence, 69 robberies with violence against businesses, and nine intentional homicides. City officials, including Mayor Manuel Alonso Cerezo, have claimed the city is "tranquil," but the figures highlight ongoing insecurity and criticism of the local police strategy.
