Mendoza opens 305 MW El Quemado solar park, Argentina's biggest
The province of Mendoza inaugurated the El Quemado solar park, a 305 MW installation that represents more than 11% of Argentina’s total solar capacity. The $220 million project, built on 620 hectares with over 511,000 bifacial panels, was developed by Emesa and completed by YPF Luz. Officials at the ceremony included Governor Alfredo Cornejo, YPF president Horacio Marín and national chief of staff Manuel Adorni.
El Quemado will supply electricity for roughly 233,000 households across Mendoza, Las Heras and Lavalle, and is the first renewable project approved under the Regime of Incentives for Large Investments (RIGI). The park bolsters Mendoza’s push to exceed 1 GW of clean generation by 2030 and positions the province as a key clean‑energy hub for industry and mining.
The launch was portrayed as a signal of stability for large‑scale investment amid Argentina’s macro‑economic challenges, with YPF projecting the renewable sector could generate up to US$30 billion in annual exports by the decade’s end.
