Argentina provinces implement new juvenile criminal law

Several Argentine provinces are preparing for the implementation of National Law 27.801, which establishes a new juvenile criminal regime and lowers the age of criminal responsibility to 14 years.

In Mendoza, the government has submitted a bill to the legislature to align local regulations with the national law, aiming to restructure judicial and operational systems. Mendoza's Attorney General, Alejandro Gullé, has expressed concerns regarding the proposal to separate judicial processes when adults and minors are involved in the same crime, warning it could lead to contradictory rulings.

La Pampa has also presented a project to adhere to the national law, focusing on creating specialized juvenile criminal courts and updating local protocols. In Tucumán, authorities are conducting training sessions for police officers to ensure they are prepared for the new legal framework and the integral protection of minors.

Additionally, inter-ministerial councils in provinces like Salta are working to coordinate policies and protective measures to ensure the effective implementation of the new regime starting September 5.
