Mendoza raises vacant‑land tax and sees drop in fiscal‑transparency rating

The city of Mendoza announced a municipal tax update that will increase the surcharge on vacant land starting 1 July. The new rates, based on property valuation, range from 82.18‰ in zone G to 853.53‰ in zone D, and the municipal tax unit (UTM) will rise to $125. Officials say the measure aims to discourage abandoned lots, improve safety and promote sustainable urban growth.

Separately, the provincial fiscal‑responsibility index published by the Argentine Association of Budget and Public Finance fell by 25 points for Mendoza, placing the province among those with low compliance. The drop reflects shortcomings in publishing budget execution, debt levels, and personnel data required by national fiscal‑responsibility law, limiting transparency for economists, auditors and citizens.
