Menopause awareness grows in Brazil amid rising health needs
International Menopause Day, observed on October 18, has highlighted the health needs of millions of women in Brazil. According to IBGE data cited by the Federal Senate, approximately 30 million Brazilian women are currently in the climacteric or menopause stage. Projections suggest this number will rise to 37 million women aged 40 to 65 by 2026.
The Ministry of Health estimates that between 20% and 30% of women experience moderate to severe symptoms during this transition, which can impact mental health, sleep, and physical functionality. Common symptoms include hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, and joint pain. The reduction of estrogen also necessitates increased attention to bone and cardiovascular health.
In response to the specific needs of this demographic, biologist Gisele Nogueira founded NE’ST Natural Care, a brand offering vegan, natural products designed for skin, hair, and holistic well-being during maturity.
Health experts, including nutritionist Mari Escobar, emphasize that while nutrition cannot replace medical supervision, a diet rich in whole foods, calcium, and vitamin D is essential for supporting bone and heart health during this phase.
