Men's Hormonal Health: Focus Beyond Testosterone on International Men's Day

Men's hormonal health involves many interacting systems, not just testosterone. While low testosterone can affect muscle mass, bone health, libido and fertility, fatigue, reduced libido, and muscle loss often stem from other causes such as stress, sleep deprivation, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, diabetes, sleep apnea, certain medications, or emotional factors. Medical assessment with laboratory tests is required before any hormone replacement, as inappropriate use can mask diseases, affect fertility, and pose other risks.

Obesity is highlighted as a chronic condition that disrupts hormonal and metabolic balance, increasing insulin resistance, type‑2 diabetes risk, hypertension, high cholesterol, liver steatosis and cardiovascular disease, while also lowering natural testosterone levels. Diabetes frequently develops silently; when diagnosed, it may already have caused cardiovascular, renal, visual or neurological complications. International Men's Day on 15 July is presented as an occasion to promote prevention, early diagnosis, and lifestyle habits that protect men's health over the long term.
