Stanislav Stoyanov warns of Black Sea escalation

European Parliament MEP Stanislav Stoyanov, leader of the Europe of Sovereign Nations party, has raised alarms regarding the escalating instability in the Black Sea region. During a plenary debate, Stoyanov highlighted that the conflict is increasingly impacting civilian life and regional security, noting that explosions from attacked vessels have been audible from the Bulgarian coast.

Stoyanov reported that a drone, identified by Bulgarian authorities as Ukrainian, exploded on Bulgarian territory near strategic gas infrastructure. He warned that the Black Sea is becoming increasingly dangerous for commercial shipping, which threatens grain exports, food security, and tourism.

Addressing European leadership, Stoyanov suggested that Kaja Kallas and Ursula von der Leyen should visit Varna to explain the effectiveness of the ‘peace through strength’ policy. He advocated for diplomatic efforts and negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to achieve a sustainable peace, cautioning that continued military escalation and the risk of direct conflict with a nuclear power could lead to catastrophic consequences.
