Cuiabá waste collection resumes after labor strike
Waste collection services in Cuiabá have returned to 100% capacity following a partial strike by workers from Locar Saneamento Ambiental. The disruption, which began on Tuesday, had reduced operations to approximately 30%, leading to waste accumulation in over 20 neighborhoods, including Pedra 90 and Pascoal Ramos.
The strike was driven by worker demands regarding salaries, benefits, and working conditions, including concerns over FGTS deposits and excessive shifts. The company had previously implemented several benefits, such as a salary adjustment and meal allowances.
Service was restored on Wednesday afternoon after the Labor Court granted an urgent injunction (interdito proibitório) in favor of Locar Saneamento Ambiental. The court order authorized police support to ensure trucks could exit the garage, imposing a daily fine of R$ 10,000 on protesters in case of non-compliance. The Municipal Company of Urban Cleaning (Limpurb) continues to monitor the situation to ensure contract compliance.
