Mercadona expands Portuguese presence with new Beja store

Spanish supermarket chain Mercadona is expanding its footprint in Portugal, with a new store scheduled to open on September 3 at the Beja Jardim Commercial Park. This opening marks the brand's entry into the Beja district, following existing operations in Évora and Setúbal.

This launch is the sixth new store opened by Mercadona in Portugal during 2026. The company's ongoing expansion strategy includes recent or planned locations in Lisbon, Viseu, Covilhã, Sintra, and Moita. Future growth plans prioritize the northern region, with locations in Amarante, Esposende, Maia, and Vila Real under consideration. Additionally, the company intends to enter the Algarve region, specifically targeting Portimão and Faro.
