Mercadona launches 8‑euro creatine supplement

Spanish supermarket chain Mercadona, owned by Juan Roig, has added a creatine powder to its fitotherapy and para‑pharmacy sections. The product, supplied by Laboratorios Ynsadiet, comes in a 200 g jar priced at €8 and is not yet available in every store.

Creatine is an endogenous compound produced by the pancreas, kidneys and liver and also obtained from meat and fish. It is used as a dietary supplement to improve performance in high‑intensity, short‑duration exercise, increasing strength, power, muscle mass and aiding post‑workout recovery. The Mercadona formulation contains creatine, calcium and phosphorus, has a neutral taste, and includes a measuring scoop. Some social‑media users have questioned the composition, noting that only about 71 % of the product is creatine.

The launch responds to rising consumer demand for affordable sports‑nutrition products, positioning the supplement among the cheapest options on the Spanish market.
