Mercato San Severino to celebrate 300 years since birth of San Gerardo Maiella
Mercato San Severino is preparing an 18-day program of events to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of San Gerardo Maiella. The festivities aim to honor the saint's legacy while highlighting the historical and religious heritage of Ciorani, a hamlet within the municipality.
The scheduled activities include spiritual music concerts by the international group Gen Rosso, a conference titled ‘S. Gerardo, famiglia e vita’ featuring scholars, and a theatrical performance titled ‘L’innocenza riconosciuta’. The play depicts the saint as a humble servant overcoming slander to have his innocence recognized.
Guided tours will also be offered at the Mother House of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer in Ciorani. This site holds significant historical value for the order founded by Saint Alphonsus Maria de' Liguori, serving as one of its early stable locations following its official establishment in Scala in 1732.
