Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ debuts as F1 safety car at 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix

Mercedes‑AMG unveiled the GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ as the new official Formula 1 safety car, replacing the GT Black Series that served from 2022. The model features a 4.0‑litre V8 biturbo engine delivering 612 hp (450 kW) and 850 Nm of torque, a nine‑speed AMG Speedshift MCT transmission and, for the first time in F1 safety‑car history, a fully variable all‑wheel‑drive system (AMG Performance 4MATIC+). Aerodynamic upgrades include a new front splitter, a modified rear wing with an active flap and additional dive‑plane elements to boost downforce. The car will make its first appearance at the Hungarian Grand Prix on 26 July 2026 at the Hungaroring, marked by a special 30‑year anniversary livery celebrating Mercedes’ three‑decade partnership as the FIA’s safety‑car supplier. Veteran safety‑car driver Bernd Mayländer will continue piloting the vehicle. Mercedes has supplied F1 safety cars since 1996, now delivering its fourteenth distinct model.

The debut underscores Mercedes‑AMG’s commitment to safety and performance, introducing the first all‑wheel‑drive safety car and enhanced signalling LEDs integrated into the rear wing to improve visibility in all weather conditions.
