Mercedes-AMG to reintroduce V8 engines following customer feedback

Mercedes-Benz is adjusting its powertrain strategy after acknowledging that it underestimated the demand for traditional large-displacement engines. CEO Ola Källenius admitted that the company failed to retain the entire customer base when transitioning certain models, such as the C63, to four-cylinder plug-in hybrid setups.

AMG CEO Stefan Weckbach confirmed that the company is responding to customer preferences by returning to V8 engines, noting that a V8-powered CLE 63 is expected to launch next year. While the company continues to pursue electrification, the move signals a renewed commitment to internal combustion engines for specific high-performance segments.

However, the return of the V8 will not apply to all models. Mercedes has indicated that there are no plans to bring the eight-cylinder engine back to the C63 line, citing the high development costs associated with the current model cycle.
