Mercedes-AMG to reintroduce V8 engines in new models by 2026

Mercedes-AMG is reintroducing V8 engines to its lineup, with new models expected to arrive before the end of 2026. The rollout is set to begin with SUVs, such as the upcoming GT SUV, followed by models like the CLE 63 Coupe. AMG CEO Michael Scheibe confirmed the division is doubling down on combustion engines, a strategic reversal from recent downsizing trends.

The new GT SUV will feature high-performance variants, including the GT 55 4matic+ SUV producing 816 hp and a potential top model, the AMG GT 63 4matic+ SUV, capable of 1,169 hp. The platform is designed to support a combined output of up to 1,360 hp. Production will take place in Sindelfingen, Germany, with batteries supplied by Webasto and axial flux motors sourced from the Berlin-Marienfelde plant.
