Mercedes-Benz begins GLA SUV production at Rastatt plant

Mercedes-Benz has officially commenced production of the new GLA SUV at its Rastatt plant in Germany. The start of series production for this model, which is built on the company’s MMA platform, is seen as a critical step in securing the future of the facility following the relocation of A-Class production to Hungary.

The new GLA will be manufactured in all available drive variations. According to Mercedes-Benz Production Board Member Michael Schiebe, the production process integrates digital technologies including MB.OS, artificial intelligence, and the MO360 production ecosystem to enhance flexibility and efficiency.

The Rastatt plant is currently undergoing a transformation involving a multi-hundred-million euro investment to accommodate the production of the CLA and CLA Shootingbrake, with full implementation expected by early 2027.
