Mercedes-Benz Prepares New V8 Engine for C63 Sedan and E63 Wagon

Mercedes‑Benz has developed a new 4.0‑liter flat‑plane crank V8 that first appears in the updated S‑Class S580, delivering up to 530 hp and 553 lb‑ft (≈750 Nm) of torque. AMG engineers are monitoring the engine’s performance and plan to use it in the long‑awaited C63 sedan and E63 station‑wagon models.

Mathias Geisen, a Mercedes board member, said the first phase of bringing a true AMG V8 back is under way, noting that market demand and future deployment plans are being evaluated. The company may also explore a plug‑in hybrid configuration for the upcoming E63 wagon to meet emissions and fuel‑economy targets while delivering high power.
