Mercedes-Benz unveils new electric GLA SUV generation
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the new generation of its GLA compact SUV, built on the new Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA) platform. The redesign focuses on a more athletic, lower silhouette with a longer wheelbase and an illuminated grille.
Initially, the lineup will feature fully electric models, including the GLA 250+ and the GLA 350 4MATIC, which offers 354 hp and a 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.4 seconds. The manufacturer plans to expand the range later with electrified combustion engine variants.
The interior has been completely overhauled to emphasize minimalism and high technology, featuring the MBUX Superscreen that spans the dashboard. The system integrates generative AI through an evolution of the MBUX Virtual Assistant, utilizing technologies from ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing, and Google Gemini.
Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius noted that the company is working to bridge the gap between combustion and electric driving experiences. This strategy is reflected in the high-performance AMG variants, such as the electric CLA 45, which Källenius compared to the character of a V8 engine.
