Mercedes F1 team alarms over reliability after back‑to‑back retirements
Mercedes‑AMG is confronting a serious reliability problem in its Formula 1 power units, having suffered two retirements in the last three races. The failures cost drivers George Russell and Kimi Antonelli valuable championship points – 25 points lost in Montreal and another 18 in Barcelona – and jeopardised the team’s fight for the Constructors’ title.
Team principal Toto Wolff described the situation as a “wake‑up call”, saying the issue appears linked to the power‑unit and battery systems and that the team will conduct an in‑depth investigation to prevent further drop‑outs and restore competitiveness for the remainder of the season.
