Mercedes-Maybach S-Class receives major update in Japan
Mercedes-Benz Japan has launched the updated Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, marking the largest update in the brand’s history with approximately 2,700 redesigned or newly developed parts.
The new model features an illuminated front grille that is 20% larger than the previous version and includes rose gold accents in the headlights. The interior focuses on enhanced rear-seat luxury, utilizing a wheelbase that is 180mm longer than the standard S-Class long model. Key upgrades include electric comfort doors, a 13.1-inch MBUX rear entertainment system, and the MBUX Superscreen, which combines a 14.4-inch central display with a 12.3-inch passenger screen. The vehicle also introduces the proprietary MB. OS and fourth-generation MBUX, featuring a generative AI virtual assistant.
Two powertrain options are available: the S 580 (ISG), which utilizes a 4.0-liter V8 engine with mild-hybrid technology, and the flagship S 680, equipped with a 6.0-liter V12 twin-turbo engine. Both models come with 4MATIC all-wheel drive and 9G-TRONIC automatic transmissions. Pricing starts at 34.15 million yen for the S 580 and 39.34 million yen for the S 680.
