Mercedes tackles battery faults hampering Russell and Antonelli

Mercedes says the early‑season retirements of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli were caused by electrical failures linked to the battery area of the car. Technical director James Allison explained that the problems, while not identical, “originate, for the most part, in the same part of the battery,” and that introducing new battery modules during the season should improve reliability.

Russell, speaking after a recent race, warned that “it’s easy to lose sight of progress when we only look at the immediate results,” and highlighted Toto Wolff’s support in keeping confidence in the project. The team currently leads the constructors’ championship, with Antonelli atop the drivers’ standings and Russell in third, and hopes the upcoming Canada Grand Prix will show the benefit of the technical fixes.
