Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+ Debuts as F1 Safety Car at 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix

Mercedes‑AMG unveiled the GT 63 Pro 4MATIC+ as the 14th official FIA Formula 1 safety car, making its debut at the Hungarian Grand Prix on the weekend of 24‑26 July 2026 in Budapest. The model replaces the GT Black Series, which served in the role for 51 events between 2022 and 2026, and marks the 30‑year partnership between Mercedes‑AMG and the FIA that began in 1996.

The car is powered by a 4.0‑litre twin‑turbo V8 delivering 450 kW (612 hp) and 850 Nm of torque, paired with a nine‑speed AMG Speedshift MCT gearbox and the first fully variable all‑wheel‑drive system (AMG Performance 4MATIC+) used on a safety car. Aerodynamic upgrades include a larger front splitter, dive‑plane elements and an active rear wing, while signalling LEDs are integrated into the rear wing and front grille. A special black‑and‑red livery commemorates the anniversary, featuring CrowdStrike branding. Veteran safety‑car driver Bernd Mayländer will operate the vehicle.
