Mercedes‑Benz unveils Smart #2 all‑electric city car concept
Mercedes‑Benz presented the Smart #2 concept, a compact two‑seat city car that will be 100 % electric. The vehicle is built on the new Electric Compact Architecture (ECA) platform and is equipped with a 35.7 kWh battery offering a WLTP range of up to 300 km. Fast charging from 10 % to 80 % is claimed to take less than 20 minutes. The car measures 2.79 m in length, has a turning circle of 6.95 m and a variable wheelbase between 1.875 m and 2.5 m. Pricing is expected to start at around €20,000, and series production is planned for 2027.
The concept was shown in Rome and signals Mercedes‑Benz’s intent to revive the original Smart‑ForTwo size and spirit, while moving to a fully electric powertrain. The company highlighted existing demand for small electric vehicles in Europe, noting that more than two million older Smart models are still on the road.
