Smart #1 upgrades, #2 debut, and Argentina market return
Overview
Smart is advancing its dual-model strategy through technical upgrades to the #1 electric crossover and the upcoming debut of the #2 two-seater. The refreshed #1 crossover has transitioned from a 400V to an 800V electrical architecture, utilizing Geely’s ‘Shield Gold Brick’ battery. This upgrade is expected to reduce 10% to 80% fast-charging times to just 12 minutes under optimal conditions. The vehicle also adopts the EEA 4.0 electronic architecture and features advanced driver assistance supported by a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor and an Nvidia Orin-Y chip.
Preparations for the Smart #2, a spiritual successor to the Fortwo, have intensified. Regulatory filings and leaked patent documents reveal the vehicle is built on the Electric Compact Architecture (ECA) platform, a collaboration where Mercedes-Benz manages design and Geely provides the technical foundation. The #2 is slated for a world debut at the October 2026 Paris Motor Show, with a target market launch in Q2 2027.
Following a seven-year absence, Smart has officially returned to the Argentine market via Prestige Auto, shifting its focus toward a premium electric SUV lineup. The initial offering includes the Smart #1, available in Pure, Pro, Pro+, and Brabus versions, and the Smart #3, a C-segment SUV coupé. Both models feature designs from the Mercedes-Benz Global Design Team and have earned five-star Euro NCAP safety ratings. In Argentina, the #1 Pure starts at $49,900, while the #3 Brabus reaches $75,900. The Brabus versions of both models deliver 428 CV, with the #3 achieving 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds.
