Mercosul and EU trade agreement set for 2026 entry into force

The trade agreement between Mercosul and the European Union is set to enter into force on August 6, 2026, following its publication in the Official Gazette. This major treaty, originally signed in 2019, will implement a gradual and asymmetric schedule for tariff elimination across various sectors to mitigate abrupt impacts on sensitive industries.

In preparation for upcoming European regulations, Brazil's Foreign Trade Chamber (Camex) has approved a resolution establishing the Socio-Environmental Analysis Report for Export Operations. Issued via the AgroBrasil + Sustentável (AB+S) platform, this document serves as an official instrument to validate socio-environmental requirements for Brazilian agricultural exports.

The report is intended to help exporters of commodities such as soy, beef, coffee, wood, palm oil, rubber, and cocoa comply with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The EUDR, which begins application later this year, prohibits access to the European market for products produced in areas deforested after 2020. The AB+S platform will provide data on origin and legality to ensure products meet the bloc's environmental standards.
