Mercosur cattle prices rise due to Brazil and Paraguay trends
The average price of cattle for slaughter in the Mercosur region strengthened recently, driven primarily by price increases in Brazil and Paraguay. The Faxcarne Index rose by 5 cents to reach US$ 4.87 per kilogram of carcass.
In Paraguay, supply shortages have pushed prices higher, with grass-finished males reaching US$ 5.35 per kilogram. Uruguay maintains the highest regional reference, though its special pasture bull saw a slight weekly decrease to US$ 5.75 per kilogram. In Argentina, export-grade cattle remained stable in local currency, though the depreciation of the peso resulted in a slight decline to US$ 5.61 per kilogram.
Brazil was a major contributor to the regional upward trend. The average across major exporting states rose to US$ 4.38 per kilogram, supported by a recovery in real-denominated prices and exchange rate fluctuations. Rio Grande do Sul recorded the highest price in Brazil at US$ 4.58 per kilogram.
