Mersin agricultural and energy issues raised in Turkish Parliament
Agricultural and energy concerns in Mersin, Turkey, have been brought to the attention of national ministries through parliamentary inquiries and calls for transparency.
Regarding the citrus sector, there are urgent demands for the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to disclose the actual production costs for lemon, mandarin, and orange crops. Stakeholders emphasize that costs including fertilizer, pesticides, irrigation, labor, and energy must be scientifically calculated to ensure producers can sell products above their cost of production. There is a call to use this data to form more effective support policies and prevent economic losses for farmers.
Additionally, MHP Mersin Deputy Levent Uysal has submitted parliamentary questions to both the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. His inquiries address the export risks faced by citrus producers due to security conditions in the Black Sea and the Russia-Ukraine war, specifically seeking measures to prevent market contraction and price drops. Uysal also highlighted the need to explore Mersin’s renewable energy potential to support the region's sustainable development.
