Mersin Beaches Cleaned During World Environment Day

The Mersin Metropolitan Municipality organized a beach‑cleaning operation on the Erdemli Kocahasanlı Halk Beach and the Silifke Kapızlı Beach as part of World Environment Day activities. The clean‑up was coordinated by the municipal Environment Protection and Control Directorate and involved local non‑governmental organisations and volunteers who collected litter from the coast.

Municipal officials highlighted the need for a collective responsibility to keep the environment clean. Soner Yetgin, head of the municipality’s Muhtarlık Affairs, said the effort aimed to leave a cleaner coast for future generations, especially in areas with sand‑dune vegetation. MESKI board member Bünyamin Uçar stressed that “cleaning is only possible if we also avoid polluting,” while Gökhan Kutkan noted that awareness events will continue throughout the year. Participants echoed the call for greater public sensitivity toward coastal protection.
