Çankaya Mayor Defends Arrested Former Special Pen Director Sadık Can Köksal

Sadık Can Köksal, who served as the special‑pen director of Çankaya Municipality from May 2024 to May 2026, was taken into custody on 2 July 2026 and subsequently detained by a court. Mayor Hüseyin Can Güner publicly stated that Köksal faces no drug‑related charges and that the two drug tests conducted in Ankara and Istanbul both returned negative results. Searches of Köksal’s residence also yielded no illegal substances or other evidence.

According to the mayor, the only basis for the arrest was an anonymous witness claim that Köksal used narcotics, which he described as “abstract, inconsistent and without material proof.” Güner emphasized that the accusations are unfounded and expressed confidence that the truth will eventually emerge.

The case is part of a broader drug‑investigation operation in Istanbul, but no concrete link to Köksal has been established.
