Mersin Metropolitan Municipality launches Çevresin environmental app

Mersin Metropolitan Municipality has launched ‘Çevresin’, a mobile application designed to integrate technology with citizen participation for environmental protection. Developed under the ‘Act for Adaptation to Climate Change’ project, the app allows residents to report environmental and climate-related issues directly to the municipality.

A key feature of the application is the ‘Yeşil Uyarı’ (Green Alert) button, which enables users to submit reports including photographs and location data. This system is intended to facilitate faster detection of air, water, and soil pollution, as well as other climate-related risks, allowing relevant municipal units to intervene more efficiently.

In addition to reporting tools, the app provides informative content to strengthen public awareness regarding climate change and environmental conservation. Serel Büyük, an environmental engineer at the municipality, noted that the application aims to create a digital environmental network, helping the city respond quickly to issues within its jurisdiction while also forwarding matters outside its authority to the appropriate institutions.
