Mersin Metropolitan Municipality provides tomato seedling subsidies in Erdemli

The Mersin Metropolitan Municipality has distributed 259,200 table tomato seedlings to 200 producers in the Erdemli district as part of its 2026 agricultural support projects. The initiative aims to reduce input costs for farmers and strengthen regional production.

Under the 70 percent subsidy program, the total cost per seedling is 19.69 TL. The municipality covers 70 percent of this cost, leaving producers to pay only 5.90 TL per seedling. The distribution reached various neighborhoods, including Üçtepe, Kocahasanlı, Alata, Karakeşli, Karyağdı, Kayacı, Koyuncu, Türbe, Yarenler, Yüksek, Kızkalesi, Limonlu, and Merkez.

Abdullah Selçuk Şahutoğlu, Head of the Agricultural Services Department, noted that the municipality has been supporting regional agricultural activities since 2019. Beyond seedlings, the municipality's broader support includes providing 167,881 seedlings and onion supports, 93,108 meters of irrigation piping, 41 pieces of machinery, 39 water tankers for nomadic Yörük communities, and solar panel support for 217 producers.
