Mersin Municipality provides solar panel support to rural producers

Mersin Metropolitan Municipality is providing solar panel support to enhance energy access for rural producers, specifically targeting nomadic small livestock breeders and migratory beekeepers. The project, managed by the Department of Agricultural Services, aims to ensure the sustainability of rural production in areas with limited electrical infrastructure.

Since its launch in 2023, the initiative has provided electricity to 1,160 households. The support allows producers to access essential services such as lighting, phone charging, television, and the use of mini-refrigerators. This access improves both the quality of life for farming families and their ability to communicate with the outside world.

One beneficiary, goat breeder Habibe Bolat from the Tarsus district, noted that the panels have provided much-needed lighting and communication capabilities in the highland areas where her family migrates during the summer months.
