Mersin municipality hosts child‑labour awareness seminar and beach clean‑up for World Environment Week

On World Child Labour Day, Mersin Büyükşehir Belediyesi organized a seminar at the Huzurkent Children Campus to raise awareness about child labour. Speakers included Dr. Erhan Gülcan of Mersin University and attorney Duygu Akat Özkale of the Mersin Bar Association, who stressed that education, not work, is the proper path for children and outlined legal regulations and the role of vocational training centres. Özkale said, "Çocuk işçiliğiyle mücadele kapsamında hukuki düzenlemelerle ilgili bir bilgilendirme yaptık."

During World Environment Week, the municipality coordinated beach‑cleaning actions on Erdemli Kocahasanlı and Silifke Kapızlı coasts. NGOs and local volunteers collected litter, while officials highlighted the need to prevent pollution before cleaning. Muhtar Soner Yetgin emphasized that such activities are essential to leave a clean environment for future generations.
