Mersin launches inclusive swimming pool for special‑needs residents

Mersin Metropolitan Municipality opened a swimming pool at the Engelsiz Yaşam (Barrier‑Free Living) Park to serve people with special needs. The pool operates from 08:00 to 20:00, Monday‑Saturday, with 45‑minute sessions supervised by lifeguards. It aims to improve physical health, social interaction and overall quality of life for children and adults with disabilities, especially those aged 7‑11. Park coordinator Betül Demir said the program focuses on water activities during the summer months and that information about schedules is posted on the municipality’s social‑media channels.

The service is part of the municipality’s broader “barrier‑free city” initiative, which seeks to provide accessible recreational facilities for all citizens.
