Messenia announces bait spraying schedule for olive groves

The Messenia Directorate of Agricultural Economy and Veterinary Medicine has announced a schedule for bait spraying operations across several communities in the Messenia region on August 24 and 25, 2026.

On Monday, August 24, spraying will take place in Velika, Papoulia, Kardamyli, Soulinari, Mesopotamos, Vlachopoulo, Neochori Leuktrou, and Chandrinos. On Tuesday, August 25, operations will begin in Milioti, Poulitsio, Koutifari, Karpoforas, Platanovrysi, Sperchogeia, Avramiou, Ag. Nikolaou, Riglio, Prosili, and the Messini municipality (specifically the Bouka area), while continuing in Papoulia, Vlachopoulo, and Chandrinos.

Authorities have issued several directives for olive growers and local producers. Farmers are requested to ensure access to fenced olive groves by removing obstacles and weeds, and to be present during the application. Spraying will not be conducted in groves where animals are present, and owners must remove livestock beforehand. Beekeepers are advised to take necessary precautions to protect their hives. Additionally, organic farmers must clearly demarcate their groves to ensure contractors do not inadvertently spray them, as contractors will not be held liable for unmarked areas.
